Enclosure

Enclosure is a simple cube made out of extruded aluminium tubing, corner connectors, transparent acrylic walls and foam tape to seal and secure acrylic panels to the tubing.

Aluminium Extrusion

Aluminium extrusion provides a lightweight but sturdy frame. It also looks very nice. On AliExpress and other stores you can find extrusions of varying standard lengths, or you can find a local store that can cut them to other dimensions.

I went with black anodised 2020 extrusions, 500mm in length. With cube corner connectors this leaves internal dimensions at 500mm.

Acrylic Walls

Clear acrylic has very good properties for such enclosures. It is transparent with excellent clarity. It is usually cheapest transparent material to buy. And it is fairly easy to cut.

Acrylic is easy to cut… with the proper tools. But there are many laser cutting stores that will cut is to specs, which is the way I decided to go. I went with Plas-Tech and it cost me CAD $240 for eight panels. I needed only five, but since you buy a large sheet which is cut into pieces, 8 cost as much as 5. This allowed me to order few more for spares and for testing with a hole for a fan.
